Shipping artwork from France to Chicago

We prepare the shipment using the artwork’s dimensions, photographs, declared value and receiving address. Collection can be assessed in Paris or elsewhere in France. Packing and freight arrangements depend on the work’s fragility, size and required schedule.

For a gallery or collector in the Chicago area, provide the full address and postal code. An airport-only price does not necessarily include cargo release, customs clearance or delivery to the recipient. Each stage and its scope should be specified in the quotation.

Packing and crates for departures from France

We review the protection of paintings, framed works and sculptures before departure. Custom crating can be arranged in France. If you already have a crate, send its external dimensions, gross weight, photographs and details of the internal supports so that we can assess whether it can be reused.

Departures from Chicago: packing comes first

For Chicago → Paris shipments, tell us whether the work is already crated and who can prepare its packing locally. MATTEI does not offer local crate fabrication in Chicago. Collection and onward transport are assessed after suitable packing for air freight has been confirmed.

Customs documentation and receiving arrangements

Please specify whether the shipment concerns a sale, loan, exhibition or return. We coordinate the export and import formalities included in your quotation and identify the documents needed for the shipment. Any excluded duties, taxes and charges are stated in the offer. Transit insurance is assessed on request, subject to the declared value and policy terms.

Delivery to galleries and private collectors

Tell us about receiving slots, stairs, lifts and parking or handling restrictions. Entrance delivery, placement inside the property, unpacking and installation are different services. Explain what you need so that we can quote an appropriate intervention.

For an exhibition, also send the venue’s logistics instructions and installation and dismantling dates. If a return to France or delivery to a buyer is already planned, include it in the initial request.

Paris–Chicago shipping questions

Can you ship a painting that is already packed?

Packing must be assessed using photographs and the artwork’s characteristics. Cardboard boxes or soft packing are not automatically suitable for air freight. The solution is confirmed after review; collection should not be booked before packing has been approved.

What do you need for an accurate quotation?

Send collection and delivery addresses and postal codes, artwork dimensions and value, photographs, current packing and preferred dates. For each existing crate, include external dimensions and gross weight. Mention access restrictions and any unpacking or installation requirements.

How long does Chicago–Paris shipping take?

The schedule depends on preparation, documentation, flight capacity and the receiving appointment. Arrival at the airport does not confirm final delivery. Share your deadlines from the start so that the available options can be assessed.
